My mind, organized.

Always great to hear from Duff, especially when he 100% does not understand the issue and only reacts because it is a personal issue to him within his industry.

Just to be clear, true music fans are not upset about SOPA and PIPA because it makes it harder to download music. They are mad about it because it’s unconstitutional, and another chipping away at our freedoms as United States citizens.

Let’s put it all in perspective here. If a kid in a school spits in the face of another kid, we don’t shut down the school. We shut down the kid who’s actions call for a reaction. The solution is so very easy and clear. Jail time, not fines, for offenders. If a site goes up that is willingly distributing copywritten music, the web host is notified and has 30 days to have it removed. At the same time, notice to the person with the blog is sent, and they can either remove it immediately or have their information turned over to the authorities. If there isn’t compliance, then criminal charges with a mandatory minimum of 5 years of hard time should be thrown at them. You watch how quickly that would end things.

As for Duff, maybe it’s time you look at the whole picture of things before spouting off like some intellectual instead of the former dopesick junkie that found success through music. I believe GNR were very public about their drug use in the 80s…at the same time the “war on drugs” was going on. So, if Duff ever shared a joint with someone (which he did), ever shared a line of coke with someone (which he did), or ever did anything more than that, my argument would be that he contributed to the continuation of illegal activity and the spreading of that activity that the government was actively fighting against. So, he should have been given the maximum sentence for his offenses, which at the time I believe would have been 5-10 years. Add to that how his portrayal of drug use being cool was, and I think he’s no different in the drug world than megaupload was in the piracy world.

Where am I going with this? Simple. I’m all for artists getting paid, and I’m all for those that purposely damage the band’s ability to survive by blatantly posting every album that comes out on the net to be shut down and prosecuted. I’m not willing to give up any of my freedoms to the government, or the entertainment industry, because they can’t police the problem that, ultimately, effects their line of work only. Here’s a news flash Duff - we enjoy what you do, but it’s not that important in the grand scheme of things. People downloading music really isn’t very important to most people…except those in the industry. It’s certainly not as important as the laws and freedoms we have as citizens; freedoms I was actively protecting when you were making millions off your music while living the rest of your day in an outwardly illegal and never prosecuted way.

Before you call everyone against SOPA and PIPA lawless people that don’t care about the laws being broken, maybe you should examine your own life a bit more thoroughly.

Mom wanted to be my facebook friend. Lemons, into lemonade.

The world is like a ride in an amusement park, and when you choose to go on it you think it’s real because that’s how powerful our minds are. The ride goes up and down, around and around, it has thrills and chills, and it’s very brightly colored, and it’s very loud, and it’s fun for a while. Many people have been on the ride a long time, and they begin to wonder, “Hey, is this real, or is this just a ride?” And other people have remembered, and they come back to us and say, “Hey, don’t worry; don’t be afraid, ever, because this is just a ride.” And we … kill those people. “Shut him up! I’ve got a lot invested in this ride, shut him up! Look at my furrows of worry, look at my big bank account, and my family. This has to be real.” It’s just a ride. But we always kill the good guys who try and tell us that, you ever notice that? And let the demons run amok … But it doesn’t matter, because it’s just a ride. And we can change it any time we want. It’s only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings of money. Just a simple choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your doors, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love instead see all of us as one. Here’s what we can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money we spend on weapons and defenses each year and instead spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would pay for many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace.

An overwhelming desire to piss on every VIP & sabotage every elite status member setup I ever see again in my life. ELITISM is the problem. How casually did you accept the huge VIP zone in front of the main area at Coachella? How easily do you roll with 2nd class as a lifestyle? The disconnect between experiencing the experience and getting the best access/prime elite status is massive. And growing. I cannot stand it. I say fuck Gordon Gecko and the me me me hysteria. Fuck abandoning those special moments of shared enlightenment for the VIP badge. I’m following my dream, not $. I want to be comfortable, not rich. Experience trumps the status. If you disagree, I don’t want to know you. While VIP-grasping friends call you a hippie & laugh, that tugging feeling that NOW matters more than ever is growing. For a vital reason. #SOPA & #NDAA is but one tentacle of the counter offensive against the AWAKENED energy that sparked #Occupy. You cannot be upset enough about what is happening to our nation, but it’s not just fatcats in Congress fucking up. It’s you. It’s me. We accept the casual divides of elitism and belittling the massive indicators that the life we know is utterly fucked and rigged against us. What we choose to accept, how smoothly we align w/the flow is defining us, right now. Those decisions permeate every facet of your life. THAT is why I hold my peers’ feet to flames & question their herd catering. Every hit of a publish button is a flag planted in the ground.
